Falmouth - Gyllyngvase Beach
Falmouth is a seaside town and port on the River Fal with plenty of places to launch a kayak. Launching at falmouth gives good access to River Fal and the section of coast between the River Fal and River Helford.
Gyllyngvase beach is southerly facing beach close to the main town that provides another safe place to launch kayaks when their is little swell.
Clean ground predominates off Gyllynvase beach and in the Carrick roads. Some patches of broken ground can be found around Pendennis Point and around Pennance Point to the right of Swanpool Beach. Beware of strong tides flowing through the entrance of the Fal, especially on spring tides. The Fal is often busy with boat traffic so keep on other water users.
Parking: A council run long stay car park is located approx. 100m from the Gyllynvase Beach. Check Cornwall County Council website for the latest parking charges.
Species: Wrasse and small Pollack can be found around the rocks to the right of Swanpool Beach, around Pendennis Point and around the harbour walls. The clean ground off the beach and within Falmouth harbour may produce Thornback Rays, Bull Huss and Dogfish if fishing at anchor. Mackerel and Garfish in season. Bass are possible to trolled lures.
Nearest Tackle Shop: Terminal Tackle at Penryn
Swell and Weather Forecast: Magic Seaweed Falmouth (see below)
