Falmouth Harbour
Falmouth is a seaside town and port on the River Fal with plenty of places to launch a kayak. Launching at falmouth gives good access to River Fal and the section of coast between the River Fal and River Helford.
Kayaks can be launched from the car park at Fish Strand Quay, just off Church Street in the main town. This provides access directly into Falmouth harbour, Penryn River and the Carrick Roads - a relatively safe fishing spot when conditions are too rough on the open coast.
Clean ground predominates in the Carrick roads. Muddy ground can be found in the inner harbour and up the Penryn River. Beware of strong tides flowing through the entrance of the Fal, especially on spring tides. The Fal is often busy with boat traffic so keep on other water users.
Parking: A council run long stay car park is located on the waters edge at Church Street but there is a height restriction of 7ft 6in. Check Cornwall County Council website for the latest parking charges.
Species: Wrasse and small Pollack can be found around the harbour walls. The clean ground within Falmouth harbour may produce Thornback Rays, Bull Huss and Dogfish if fishing at anchor. Flounder, Gilthead Bream and Thick Lip Mullet are possible up the Penryn River and within the harbour in season. Mackerel and Garfish in season. Bass are possible to trolled lures. The harbour provides many good spots to try kayak LRF fishing for mini species.
