Portreath

A small sandy North facing beach nestled in a valley between steep cliffs. It is well exposed and launching from the beach is only possible in very low swell. The left hand side of the beach tends to get less surf so is a safer option for launching. Paddling West past Gull Rock gives access to stunning secluded beaches, such as Jacobs Cupboard, used by smugglers in the past.

Parking: A small pay and display car park is located at the top of the beach. Free parking is available along the main road if there are spaces.

Species: An extensive area of broken ground is located just off the beach extending to approx. 1 nautical mile offshore. Bass, Pollack and Big Wrasse can be caught over the rough ground on lures. Anchoring will produce Bull Huss, Dogfish and possibly Conger Eels. Mackerel and Garfish in season. Gurnards, Whiting, Pouting, the odd Plaice, Dabs and Greater Weever may show over patches of clean ground. Small Eyed Ray may show if your anchored on the clean ground. Turbot and Brill could be a possibility on drift fished baits over the clean ground.

Nearest Tackle Shops: Anglers Den at Hayle, County Angler at Truro and Sandies Tackle at Redruth
