Sennen Cove

Sennen Cove is a picturesque large sandy bay and is the most Westerly launch venue in Cornwall. The cove is well exposed to Atlantic Swells and is well known for the spectacular waves that roll in when a deep Atlantic depression makes landfall. On a calm day it is a nice launch mark and you can launch from the shelter of the small harbour or from the beach itself. It is a popular beach in the summer with beach-goers so arrive early to get a parking space. Safe launching from the harbour is possible in up to 4-5ft of swell but beware of swell breaking over the shallow ground around the exposed reefs past the breakwater when paddling out. Anything over 5ft and conditions become very challenging and should only be paddled in by those experienced in big sea conditions. When mixed with strong tides and any wind this venue becomes very dangerous.

Strong tides flow towards Lands End, especially on Spring Tides, do not venture to far towards Lands End unless you are a confident paddler. The area in the bay within the limits of the Cowloe reef is much safer and offers good fishing.

Parking: Pay and Display car parks are located at the top of the beach and above the harbour. Access to the harbour beach is via a steep slipway, and to the main Sennen beach via a shallower slope.

Species: Bass may show around the reefs to trolled lures. Pollack and Codling may show around the reefs. Wrasse to bottom fished worm and crab baits on the rough ground. Plaice, Dabs, Turbot, Gurnards and Greater Weever to drift fished baits on the clean ground. Brill are a possibility. Rays and Bull Huss may show when fishing at anchor. Mackerel and Garfish in season.
