The RTM Abaco comes with plenty of storage space. There is a large front hatch with removable basin, a sealed centre storage area with rod tube and a huge rear tank well. The front hatch is perfect for storing a C-Tug whilst out on the water with the basin removed, with the basin in place it makes a great space to store clothing or other smaller items. The sealed centre storage area is great for storing tackle and a spare lure rod. The rear tank well provides the largest storage space and is the perfect width to take a storage crate......
I have attached some pipe using cable ties to use as rod holders and a gaff holder. I used a larger diameter tube for an anchor store. I added an extra length of bungee across the tank well to give additional support to the storage crate, this can be seen in the last photo.
The Abaco also has a small elevated storage area behind the seat and i wanted to utilise this area for storing bait and/or fish for the table. I managed to find a 10 litre paint bucket (sold in Wilkinsons) that fits perfectly in the storage area. The bungee fitted to the kayak is slightly to short to clip over the bucket but is easily replaced with a longer section to hold the bait bucket in place. A few drainage holes were also drilled in the bottom.
The storage crate and bait/fish bucket are great - it helps speed up setting up and packing away as everything is stored in one place.
I also added a length of bungee across the nose of the kayak just in front of the hatch - this can be used as a paddle keeper or for tucking the rod tips under when transporting the kayak on the C-Tug or when landing through surf.
I now have plenty of storage options on the Abaco to make fishing more comfortable.
