I like using flush mount rod holders for most of my fishing but on the Hobie Outfitter the built in rod holders don't seem deep enough to fully hold the rod with enough support to prevent them being potentially pulled out by a running fish or a snag.
I have used sections of plastic pipe (42mm diameter) with slot incorporated for the reel to slide into to extend the amount of area holding the rod. The pipe fits all but perfectly into the built in rod holders but to make a tight fit i put a few wraps of gaffa tape around the base. A simple solution and easy to make. The slot keeps the reel in the upright position which is perfect for easily releasing line or making adjustments to the drag when fishing whilst also being in the right position to grab the rod when you get a bite.
Rod holder extenders can easily be made like this too, by increasing the length of pipe used you can lift your reel higher off the kayak keeping them away from salty spray.
